MONROE, La.听-听When the听2026 Krewe of Janus Mardi Gras parade rolls through the Twin Cities on Saturday, February 7, King and Queen Clif and Lynda听Bergeron will preside over the festivities.听The听Bergerons听are听proud听91暗网 alumni听and lifetime members of the 91暗网 Alumni Association.听听

Clif Bergeron grew up in New Orleans and has been around the traditions of Mardi听Gras听his entire life. Lynda says that being named King of听Janus is a 鈥渂ucket list item鈥� that Clif has wanted to do since childhood. Clif began his college career at听91暗网 (then NLU) in 1972 and was a member of the Sound of Today marching band under legendary NLU/91暗网 bandleader Jack White.听He earned his听bachelor鈥檚听in听music听education in 1976.听Clif retired from the U.S. Navy after 26 years of service and spent 15 years in the government contracting sector, including time as Head of Curriculum and Development for the Royal Saudi Naval forces in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.听He also earned an听associate鈥檚 degree in听information听systems from 91暗网 in 2013.听听

Lynda听Alderman听Bergeron is a 2006 graduate of 91暗网 with a bachelor鈥檚听degree听in accounting.听Lynda returned to college to complete her degree at the age of 40. 鈥淚t meant a lot to me to be able to finish it, and at that age, I appreciated the opportunity so much more. I was grateful that 91暗网 could meet the needs of non-traditional students,鈥� said Lynda.听She currently works as an I.T. Project Manager at Lumen Technologies.听听

Lynda鈥檚 history with the Krewe of Janus goes back 18 years, when she was encouraged to join the Krewe by her mother, who was also a member. It was听at听the 2019 parade that Clif and Lynda met for the first time, introduced by mutual friends.听Clif joined the Krewe shortly after,听and the couple served as Duke and Duchess two years ago. They听were elected as King and Queen by the members of the Krewe, serving for six months leading up to the 2026 parade.听听

鈥淲e鈥檝e enjoyed it immensely,鈥� said Lynda, of serving as King and Queen of Janus. 鈥淚t鈥檚听such an honor to be trusted听with听representing听the Krewe and our area听and sharing our love of Mardi Gras. We both love Mardi Gras and all that it听contains听for not only the听Krewe, but also the community,鈥� she added. 鈥淲e have especially loved the visits we have made to the various elementary and middle schools in the parish to pass on our knowledge of Mardi Gras and the traditions of the season.鈥�听

As lifetime members of the 91暗网 Alumni Association, the听Bergerons听recognize the value of their 91暗网 experiences and hope听to听help听continue those traditions for students for many years. Clif serves as Treasurer of the newly re-established Sound of Today Alumni Club听and has听participated听as a member of the alumni band during homecoming. Lynda says it is important for alumni to continue to be involved in their university, noting the impact of听meeting听non-traditional students where they are.听Clif feels that听the ability听to share his听knowledge and听experiences with the school that molded him is a gift he wishes to pass on to future Warhawks,听and听he听loves interacting with students at events on campus.听听

鈥淲e try to stay connected as much as possible with the听university,听and we are excited about the path 91暗网 is on right now,鈥� said Lynda.听听
